Li Cou
Li Cou (李湊) (died February 10, 835〔http://dbo.sinica.edu.tw/ftms-bin/kiwi1/luso.sh?lstype=2&dyna=%AD%F0&king=%A4%E5%A9v&reign=%A4%D3%A9M&yy=9&ycanzi=&mm=1&dd=&dcanzi=%A4A%A5f〕), formally Crown Prince Huaiyi (懷懿太子), was an imperial prince of the Chinese dynasty Tang Dynasty who became implicated in an alleged plot that the chancellor Song Shenxi was supporting him to be emperor. He was, as a result, demoted by his brother Emperor Wenzong. After his death, Emperor Wenzong, coming to believe that the allegations were false, posthumously honored him as crown prince.
== Background ==
It is not known when Li Cou was born — but as his youngest known older brother, Li Han (the later Emperor Wenzong), was born in 809,〔''Old Book of Tang'', vol. 17, part 1.〕〔Although Li Chan the later Emperor Wuzong was listed as Emperor Muzong's fifth son and Li Cou the sixth, while receiving edicts of being created princes, Li Chan's name was listed after Li Cou and Li Rong the eighth son of Emperor Muzong; Li Chan was born in 814, later than Li Rong; When the fellows of Wang Shoucheng falsely accused Li Cou, the rumors they made suggested that Li Cou was the eldest living brother of Wenzong. So Li Chan was indeed younger than both Li Cou and Li Rong, but as the fifth living son of Emperor Muzong, he was listed as so.〕 and his eldest known younger brother Li Rong was born in 812,〔The Epitaph of Prince An〕 he must have been born between these points. He was the sixth son of Emperor Muzong, although the identity of his mother had been lost to history.〔''Old Book of Tang'', vol. 175.〕〔''New Book of Tang'', vol. 82.〕 He was said to be mild in temperament and appropriate in his behavior in his youth.〔 In 821, when Emperor Muzong created his sons, as well as a number of younger brothers who had not been created titles, imperial princes, Li Cou was created the Prince of Zhang.〔''Zizhi Tongjian'', vol. 241.〕
